It all started when my first son Daniel was on his way. I wanted to buy a watch to commemorate the event. Something nice. Something that I could give him some day. Something that would stand the test of time. Something classic. A classic design. Something robust and reliable. It was a 34mm Rolex Air King. Stainless steel, silver 3-6-9 dial, baby blue filled indicies. Oyster bracelet. Engine turned bezel. Automatic movement. All in-house. Rolex. Classic.

That was it. I was hooked on automatic movement watches from then on. I’ve come to own several other Rolex, Omega, Grand Seiko, and Universal Geneve watches. I tend to gravitate toward mechanical movement watches with reliable in-house automatic movements and classic designs. I’m obsessed. Hours spent on watch forums (watch forums???), searching, tracking secondary markets, searching for the yet unknown. Deciding the next purchase. Reading the feedback of other watch fans, collectors, and otherwise. Trust me, there’s a lot out there.

In the end, I gravitated towards Seiko. Seiko Dive watches are classic. Classic design. They will stand the test of time from a design and movement and reliability perspective. They are one of the last great values available in watches. I’ve amassed a collection of several Seiko divers over the years since my first Rolex, and I must say, I love wearing them just as much. I love the design. I love how well they work. I love that you don’t need a battery. I love the value. I love that other watch people, real watch people, will recognize that you are wearing a classic if they spot you. I love that you don’t have to worry about them, no matter the task. Tough, reliable, classic. What’s not to love.

Daly Watch Club is about sharing that love with my friends and family. Who knows what it will become, but it’s a start. Here we are!!
